Getting There and Away

 

Buses from Vientiane to Vang Vieng:


The local bus leaves from Da Laat Sao (The morning market) bus station. They leave at 6am, 7am, 9am, 11am, 12.30 pm and 2pm. It takes about 4 to 5 hours for the journey and costs 40, 000 kip. There are also Songthaews that leave from the Songthaew station north of the city, which go every 20 minutes. When arriving in Vang Vieng the buses and Songthaews will stop by the side of the airfield so make sure you get off here, the bus then goes 3km north to the bus station.


There are also a few Mini Buses that leave from near to the bus station and leave when they are full. The journey should cost 60, 000 kip.


The Thavonsouk Bus Company and Malany Bus Company leaves from opposite the National Cultural Hall at 10am and 2pm. The journey for both these companies takes about 3 and a half hours. Tickets can be booked through many of the guesthouses or tour operators in Vientiane.
Tickets cost 60, 000 kip.


Private Mini Buses can be booked through tour operators in Vientiane like Khiri Travel.

 

Buses from Vang Vieng to Vientiane.


The local bus leaves from the Norhtern Bus Station, you can eiter catch the bus from there or by the side of the road next to the old air field. They leave at 5.30am, 6am, 6.30am, 7am, 12.30 pm and 2pm. It takes about 4 to 5 hours for the journey and costs 40, 000 kip. There are also Songthaews available from the bus station or the airfield which leave for Vientiane every 20 mins or so, the cost is 40, 000 kip.

Tickets can be booked through many of the guesthouses or tour operators in Vang Vieng and cost 60, 000 kip.

 

Mini Buses can also be booked through tour operators in Vang Vieng. They leave at 9am and cost 70, 000 kip.

 

From Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng:


Mini Buses are available leaving at 9am and 2pm. They take about 6 and a half hours and arrive into the Northern Bus Station in Vang Vieng. When arriving to the Vang Vieng Bus Station its a 3km tuk tuk ride (10, 00 kip) or 30 minute walk to the town centre.

 

There is a VIP bus also leaving at 9.30 am.


Bus tickets are available in Luang Prabang from guesthouses or tour operators. Minibuses should cost between 100, 000 and 120, 000. The VIP bus is 100, 000.

 

From Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang:


Mini Buses are available leaving at 9am and 2pm. They take about 6 and a half hours and arrive into the centre of Luang Prabang.


There is a large VIP bus also leaving at 9.30 am. There is also a night bus that leaves at 8pm from the bus station.


Bus tickets are available in Vang Vieng from guesthouses or tour operators.

 

Minibuses should cost between 100, 000 and 120, 000. The VIP bus is 100, 000.
